FAIR Wizard – Training

In the context of the new AV CR FAIR Wizard service for anyone from all over the CAS, we would like to invite you to the already announced first training for researchers.
The training will take place online on Wednesday 6 September 2023 10:00 – 12:00, will be recorded and the recording will be available. A link to Zoom will be sent to you prior to the event.
The FAIR Wizard is an online service for easy creation of a Data Management Plan/DMP – it is a stand-alone instance of the Data Stewardship Wizard, an open source tool created and developed into production form in the ELIXIR project to manage research data more systematically.
The DMP has been a standard requirement in European projects (Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, ERC grants, etc.) for some time. This year, it has increasingly become required by Czech funders. Often it is even required in several versions (e.g. before, during and at the end of the project). Precisely because DMP is considered as “living” document that has to be kept up-to-date throughout the research project, it is advisable to use a tool for its creation that allows to keep the information clearly up-to-date, and to generate the DMP as a project annex in an up-to-date form on demand anytime it is needed.
For the above reasons, the CAS Library provides access to the AV CR – FAIR Wizard service and recommends this service as a suitable tool for preparing the DMP. The chosen technical solution – a questionnaire application based largely on closed questions – allows:
- machine processability,
- automatic evaluation of monitored metrics (FAIR, good DMP practice, Openness),
- automatic completion of some questions,
- the creation of different versions of the DMP for different phases of the project,
- creation of pre-made templates to facilitate the preparation of further DMPs by individual institutes, departments and research teams,
- exporting the resulting document to the form required by different funders,
- in case of demand, the possibility of creating a Czech version responding to the requirements of Czech funders (currently Czech funders refer to the Horizon Europe template and accept its form).
We have created a User Guide for the tool, which should help you with a basic introduction to the environment, functionalities and possibilities of the tool.
In this training, FAIR Wizard will be presented by Ing. Jan Slifka (ORCID: 0000-0002-4941-0575) and Kryštof Komanec (ORCID: 0000-0003-3856-1682), who are involved in the development of this tool.
Participants will learn the basics of using the DSW/FAIR Wizard and creating DMPs. The training includes:
- How to log in and edit your profile.
- What a knowledge model is and how to select one for your DMP.
- Completing a DMP and using FAIR metrics.
- What document templates are and how to create documents.
- Sharing a DMP and online collaboration.
- How to clone and migrate a DMP.
