Lifelong Learning Course “Data Stewardship” at UCT – Module 1

March 17 – April 19, 2026

When: flexible until April 19, 2026
Where: online

The Data Stewardship Support team, in collaboration with the Centre for Information Services and the PhD Office at UCT, is organizing in spring a lifelong learning course, Data Stewardship, which provides a comprehensive introduction to research data management (RDM) with an emphasis on open science (OS) principles.

The course is intended for researchers at all career stages who wish to gain both practical and theoretical foundations in working with research data. It is particularly suitable for PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers, for whom the course can be beneficial both in terms of current grant requirements and career development – for example, towards the role of a data steward.

The course is held in English, requires active participation, and will be repeated in the future. The teaching is divided into two modules:

Module 1 (online, self-study)
The first part is delivered via e-learning and is time-flexible. A recommended study time is at least one week to allow sufficient time to absorb the material. Upon successfully passing the final test, participants will receive a certificate, which is a prerequisite for attending the follow-up module. The fee for this module is CZK 1,000.

More information and registration for Module 1 can be found here.

Module 2 (in person)
The second module consists of five sessions held at UCT in room B2319 (Building B, Zikova, Prague 6 – Dejvice):

  • – April 20 (10:00–13:00) – Research Data Management and Data Management Plan
  • – April 27 (10:00–13:00) – Data storage and formats, FAIR principles
  • – May 4 (10:00–13:00) – Searching, citing and licensing data
  • – May 11 (10:00–13:00) – Structuring and documenting data
  • – May 18 (10:00–13:00) – Archiving data

The module also includes a final assignment that will demonstrate practical understanding of the topics covered. Upon completion, participants will receive an additional certificate. The fee for this module is CZK 15,000.

More information and registration for Module 2 can be found here.
