What does an environment where science can truly thrive look like? Can the Czech research system provide the conditions that allow researchers to develop excellent science? And what lessons can we draw from international experiences? These are the questions that KRECon 2025 will focus on, taking place on November 13–14, 2025, at the National Library of Technology (NTK) in Prague.

This year’s theme is “Excellent Research: Challenges and Opportunities”. The conference will not focus on a philosophical definition of excellence, but will instead present concrete experiences and perspectives from Czech universities and research institutes, funding providers, and international experts. Discussions will address whether we can support scientific talent at different stages of their careers, how to evaluate research outcomes and impacts, and the role of national institutions, grant agencies, and internal mechanisms within research organizations.

The first day of the conference, conducted in English, will provide the framework for the discussion and bring international perspectives, while the second day, held in Czech, will focus on the institutional perspective – that is, how funding providers implement support for excellent research and how research organizations themselves approach it. The aim is to facilitate an open exchange of views and identify practical approaches that can help the Czech research environment further develop truly excellent science.

KRECon – the Knowledge, Research, Education Conference – has been held regularly at NTK since 2010. Over the years, it has served as an open forum for both domestic and international experts, providing a space to discuss current topics in Czech research that are often insufficiently addressed. Attendance is free, and the conference welcomes everyone interested in the direction of Czech research and the challenges and opportunities it faces.
