Department of Open Science offers training in Open Science and research data management. Along with information about our seminars and training sessions, here you will find an overview of courses focused on Open Science, data stewards, and data management.

Current training
Training for Institutes of the CAS – FAIR Wizard
We offer two types of training based on user roles within the FAIR Wizard:
- Training for Researchers – can be organized at your institute
- The training will introduce participants to the basics of data management and show how to create a DMP in FAIR Wizard.
- Training duration: cca 2h
- Training for Data Stewards
- The training is intended for those who hold the role of Data Steward at their institute or are in charge of the Open Science agenda
- Introduction to advanced features in FAIR Wizard in the role of Data Steward – preparation of templates for researchers, management of user groups, etc.
- Training duration: cca 2h
Where and how is the training conducted?
- Training sessions can be held in person at the Library of CAS at Národní 1009/3, 110 00 Prague 1, with a capacity of up to 10 participants, or we can arrange it at your institute, also for larger groups.
- If an in-person session isn’t convenient for you, we can arrange online training as well.
- The training can be in Czech or in English.

Past seminars
Support for Open Science at the Library of the CAS
In June 2024, we held an online seminar Support for Open Science at the Library of the CAS, introducing the services of the Department of Open Science, Open Access publishing, the institutional repository ASEP, and creating DMPs using the FAIR Wizard tool.

AV ČR FAIR Wizard Training
In September 2023, we held an online seminar AV ČR FAIR Wizard Researcher Training, that demonstrated the creation of DMPs in this tool in detail.
The recording is accessible only from IP addresses within the Academy of Sciences here.
Courses and Training
EOSC CZ Training Center
The EOSC CZ Training Center provides facilities for educational activities, including trainers, lecturers, and full organization of training sessions. It collaborates with universities and other institutions, compiling a comprehensive overview of training sessions across the Czech Republic. Most of these courses can also be found in News.
OpenPlato
The OpenPlato platform, developed by OpenAIRE, offers e-learning courses for Open Science, Research Data Management (RDM), and FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable). It is an open digital platform for self-paced learning, offering courses tailored to various user groups – including researchers, data managers, service users, publishers, and policymakers. OpenPlato provides a wide range of courses, from guides on using specific services to in-depth insights into data management.

Courses
Universities are now providing education in Open Science through lifelong learning programs, specifically in the form of micro-certificates. This new approach to lifelong education is part of the broader National Recovery Plan, coordinated by Charles University, with the primary goal of increasing flexibility in education and enabling faster acquisition of specific skills. These micro-certificates offer expert-validated training designed to meet the current needs of the job market, employers, and individuals interested in further education.
UISK FF UK – Data Steward
The Institute of Information Studies and Librarianship at Charles University offers a lifelong learning course Data Steward, providing a comprehensive overview of key aspects of Open Science and Research Data Management (RDM). Participants will learn about creating DMPs, the FAIR principles, research ethics, data processing and storage, licensing, and project management.
The course is held in person, with 30 hours of lectures and seminars and 20 hours of hands-on sessions, including short internships.
Participants receive a micro-certificate and a certificate of completion.
The course runs from February 3 to April 28, 2025, applications are open till January 10, 2025 here.
UVT MUNI – Bezpečná správa výzkumných dat
The Institute of Computer Science at Masaryk University offers course Bezpečná správa výzkumných dat (Secure Management of Research Data), aimed at researchers, project managers, and research support staff.
This course provides an overview of research data management, covering topics like security, technical administration, legal aspects, DMP creation, repositories, persistent identifiers, data anonymization, distinctions between HSS and STM data, EOSC implementation in the Czech Republic, and cybersecurity.
The 12-week course is conducted online, and participants receive a certificate of completion.
KISK MUNI – Digitální kurátorství
The Department of Information and Library Studies at Masaryk University offers course Digitální kurátorství: Jak uchovávat digitální data paměťových institucí pro budoucí generace (Digital Curation: How to Preserve Digital Data in Memory Institutions for Future Generations), aimed primarily at staff of memory and educational institutions, such as libraries, museums, schools, as well as government and private sector employees.
Participants learn about methods of digital and data curation, including how to preserve, manage, and share data, and how to use tools and standards in practice.
The 12-week course is held online, and participants receive a microcertificate upon completion.
DocEnhance – Data Stewardship
The online Data Stewardship course, developed under the European DocEnhance project, offers an introduction to research data management, aimed primarily at PhD students.
The course covers data collection, analysis, preservation, and archiving, research ethics, FAIR principles, and project management.
It is fully online and can be taken at any time. The course is accessible on NTK’s Moodle platform.
Universität Wien – Data Steward
The University of Vienna holds an annual two-semester course for Data Stewards, offering education in Research Data Management, Open Science, as well as basics of IT, Data Science, and FAIR Data. The course concludes with an individual or group project where participants apply their knowledge in practice.
The course is conducted in a hybrid format, with the first module held in person in Vienna and the rest online. Upon successful completion, participants receive a Certificate of the University of Vienna.
