P JAC – call – Open Science II.
On 26 June 2024, the Ministry of Education and Science announced a call within the framework of the Operational Programme Johannes Amos Comenius (P JAC) – call No.02_24_030 Open Science II, the aim of which is to support industry-specific and interdisciplinary activities within the implementation of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) initiative in the Czech Republic.
The call will support the development of thematic/disciplinary repositories, the development and application of appropriate metadata models, standards and other means and tools to increase the searchability, accessibility, interoperability and re-usability of research data.
The call foresees one joint project. In June, a meeting was held between individual representatives of the EOSC.CZ working groups and Charles University (Charles University is in charge of preparing the consortium project and coordinating the partner network).
The management of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic subsequently started the coordination of the preparation of the project to be submitted by the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic under this call.
The coordination for the involvement of the CAS institutes in the prepared project was entrusted to:
- Jiří Vondrášek (main coordinator), Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the CAS, head of the EOSC-CZ Working group “Bio/Health/Food”.
- David Novák (Deputy Coordinator), Institute of Archaeology of the CAS, Prague, Deputy Head of the EOSC-CZ Working Group “Humanities and Arts”.
- Marek Cebecauer (Deputy Coordinator), J. Heyrovsky Institute of Physical Chemistry, CAS, Head of the EOSC-CZ Working Group “Materials Science and Technology”.
If you are interested in further information on how to get involved in the project, please do not hesitate to contact them as soon as possible.
These nominated representatives will participate in the meeting on behalf of the CAS with Charles University, which is in charge of preparing the consortium project.
The Open Science II call builds on the previous support from OP JAK in the form of calls „Individuální projekty systémové – Výzkum a vývoj I” (projekt EOSC -CZ) and “Open Science I” (NRP project – still in the evaluation process). These three complementary interventions have a common goal – to support the implementation of open science principles in the Czech environment by providing the necessary infrastructure and human resources. The implementation of the EOSC initiative and the principles of Open Science and FAIR data is expected to reduce duplication and other inefficiencies in research work, increase the speed of dissemination of scientific information, introduce innovation, and deepen and streamline intra- and interdisciplinary research collaboration. Indirectly also increasing the competitiveness of Czech research institutes.
