Webinar: Open Source Software and Open Science
24. June; 17:00 - 18:00
When: June 24, 2025, 17:00 – 18:00 CEST
Where: online
Open Science and Open Source Software are not just parallel movements – they are closely connected, sharing the same values and practical foundations. On June 24, 2025, the ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics invites the academic community to explore this relationship in an upcoming online Coffee Lecture titled “Open Source Software and Open Science: A Productive Pair”.
The lecture will emphasize the critical role that open software plays in enabling Open Science, particularly for research that relies heavily on coding and data analysis. Despite Open Source Software being foundational to much of the world’s scientific and web infrastructure, its integration into economics research and education remains limited. Using concrete examples from ongoing research, teaching, and prominent Open Source projects like pylcm and GETTSIM, the session will discuss strategies to foster wider adoption and unlock new opportunities in the field.
This event is part of ZBW’s Coffee Lectures on Open Science Education, a series showcasing how Open Science principles and tools can be integrated into university teaching. Although the focus is on economics and management, the topics and tools discussed will resonate with anyone interested in reproducible research, transparent workflows, and collaborative science – especially those working with computational methods.
