The OASPA 2025 international conference will take place on September 22 – 24, 2025, at the historic Irish College Leuven in Belgium. This unique annual event brings together the global community focused on open access and open scholarly publishing. Organized by OASPA (Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association), the conference is part of the organization’s ongoing efforts to promote high-quality, sustainable, and inclusive models of scholarly publishing. OASPA is widely recognized as a key voice in the open access movement.

This year’s theme is “Embracing the Complexity – How do we get to 100% OA?” Participants will explore crucial questions such as: Is reaching 100% open access a desirable goal? How should we define it? And how does this vision affect the quality, sustainability, and inclusivity of scholarly communication?

The program will include keynote talks, thematic panel discussions, interactive sessions, and poster lightning talks. Topics will range from the role of libraries in the transition process, pressure on researchers and the erosion of publishing integrity, to the development of open publishing in different regions and the impact of geopolitical change. The event will also provide ample space for networking and sharing experiences. The conference is open to all stakeholders in research, scholarly communication, funding policy, and publishing – from academic librarians and researchers to funders, publishers, and technology platforms.

Early bird registration at discounted rates is open until June 30, 2025. Fees vary based on organizational size and OASPA membership. Prices range from €650 (for members and supporters) to €885 (for large non-member organizations). Reduced rates are available for academic sector employees, small non-profits (up to five employees), and participants from low- and middle-income countries according to the Wellcome list.
