Online Course: Spatial Data Science in Python – Registration
When: September 8–12 and 22–26, 2025, 16:00–18:00 (CEST)
Where: online
The Faculty of Science at Charles University is opening registration for the next edition of its Spatial Data Science in Python course, which offers participants the opportunity to earn a European micro-credentials certificate. The course is open to anyone, regardless of professional background or previous experience. The training will be held online in two blocks: September 8–12 and September 22–26, 2025, each day from 16:00 to 18:00 (CEST).
The course is designed for those who want to explore the fundamentals of spatial data science (SDS) and learn how to analyze spatial data using open-source tools in Python. Participants will become familiar with key Python libraries such as pandas, geopandas, libpysal, esda, pointpats, scikit-learn, xarray, tobler, pyinterpolate, statsmodels, and mgwr. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics – from data manipulation and exploratory spatial data analysis, to raster data processing, point pattern analysis, clustering, spatial interpolation, and regression modeling.
The course emphasizes hands-on learning and real-world datasets. While it primarily focuses on data commonly used in social geography – particularly vector data capturing various aspects of human life – the techniques and concepts of SDS are broadly applicable across many disciplines. Participants will gain practical skills in applying spatial analysis techniques, evaluating their suitability, and transforming spatial data into meaningful insights. Those who complete the webinar series will leave with a solid foundation in SDS and practical competencies that are transferable to a variety of fields where spatial data plays a central role.
The course will be taught in English. Basic knowledge of Python and statistics (e.g., linear regression) is required. The fee is CZK 7,500 (approximately EUR 300), and a minimum attendance of 60% is required to receive the certificate.
Registration is open until August 31, 2025. More information and the registration details are available here.
