EBIF 2025
11. June
When: June 17, 2025, 09:30 – 18:00 (BST)
Where: London, United Kingdom
The ELIXIR Bioinformatics Industry Forum 2025, taking place on June 17, 2025, in London, is a one-day expert meeting focused on a key issue in today’s life science research: federated data analysis. This year’s edition, titled “Federated Life Science Data Analysis: Overcoming Challenges for Global Impact”, will bring together professionals to share experiences, foster collaboration, and explore solutions for working with sensitive and geographically distributed data in the fields of biology and biomedicine.
Federated approaches allow data to be analysed locally – without moving it – making them crucial for data privacy protection and regulatory compliance. At the same time, these approaches come with significant challenges, including the lack of common standards and limited interoperability across different systems.
The forum aims to:
- Present best practices and lessons learned from established organisations
- Provide an overview of the current landscape of federated solutions
- Identify gaps and opportunities for research or service development
- Highlight technological innovations and scientific breakthroughs
- Encourage discussion among solution providers and spark new collaborations
ELIXIR, a partner of this event, is the European life science infrastructure for biological data. ELIXIR connects over 240 institutes across 21 member countries, three observer countries, and the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI). It supports scientists in storing, accessing, and analysing large-scale biological data, with the goal of increasing the impact of research on healthcare, the environment, and the economy. By coordinating national capacities and services, ELIXIR helps reduce fragmentation in data management and enables more efficient use of computational resources across Europe.
