CODATA-RDA School of Research Data Science
28. July - 8. August
The School of Research Data Science (SoRDS), hosted at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in collaboration with the Committee on Data of the International Science Council (CODATA) and the Research Data Alliance (RDA), will take place from July 28 to August 8, 2025, in Trieste, Italy.
SoRDS is an intensive summer school focused on developing practical skills in research data science – from managing and sharing data to analyzing and modeling it. The program includes lectures and hands-on workshops dedicated to techniques and tools for processing, analyzing, visualizing, and modeling large-scale data sets across various computational infrastructures, including high-performance computing systems (HPC). A strong emphasis is also placed on research data management aligned with the principles of Open Science. The course covers the following topics:
- Foundations for working with data: introduction to the Unix shell, version control with Git
- Research management and integrity: research data management, open and responsible research, authorship skills in the 21st century
- Data analysis and visualization: data wrangling in R/Python, data visualization
- Advanced methods and infrastructure: information security, machine learning, artificial neural networks, computational infrastructures
This year marks the 10th anniversary edition of the summer school – a unique opportunity to join an international community of researchers committed to open and responsible science. Researchers and professionals from all fields are welcome to apply – from natural and technical sciences to social sciences and the humanities. The application deadline is May 25, 2025.
