4th UN & UNESCO Open Science Conference

October 16 – 18, 2025

When: October 16–18, 2025
Where: Online & Tokyo

The Fourth UN Conference on Open Science and Open Education, organized by the Dag Hammarskjöld Library of the United Nations in collaboration with several UNESCO thematic sectors, will serve as a platform for promoting the principles of Open Science as key priorities in the international agenda for the implementation of the Pact for the Future. The conference will take place from October 16 to 18, 2025, and will bring together policymakers, representatives of intergovernmental organizations, researchers, scientists, librarians, publishers, and representatives of civil society. Online participation is also possible.

Despite significant commitments over the past two decades, billions of people, especially in developing countries, still do not have access to research results and the opportunity to actively participate in the creation of scientific knowledge. Open science and open education provide a possible path to the desired transformation of the scientific ecosystem and the achievement of established commitments, while promoting multilateral cooperation, responsible innovation, and the equitable dissemination of knowledge.

As stated in the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science, we must ensure “mutual access to science for all knowledge creators and consumers, regardless of their location, nationality, race, age, gender, income, socioeconomic status, career stage, discipline, language, religion, disability, ethnicity, migration status, or any other grounds.”

More details and the conference program can be found here.
Registration for online participation is available here.
