CESSDA – Data Citation Guide
CESSDA has published a Data Citation Guide to support proper citation of datasets as independent scientific outputs. The Guide addresses a common problem in current research practice, where scientists often mention data in their work but tend to cite related publications rather than the datasets themselves. By providing clear guidelines and practical recommendations, this resource aims to increase transparency, support open science practices, and ensure proper recognition for data creators.
The Guide outlines the core components of data citation and provides practical recommendations tailored to key stakeholders, including data repositories, researchers, academic journals and publishers, research performing organizations, policy and funding entities, and ethics committees.
