CRAFT-OA Conference

When: October 6 – 8, 2025
Where: Göttingen, Germany

The conference titled “Crafting the Future of Diamond Open Access: Technical, Social & Political Perspectives of Scholarly Publishing” marks the concluding phase of the CRAFT-OA project (Creating a Robust Accessible Federated Technology for Open Access). This important event will take place at the University of Göttingen from October 6 to 8, 2025.

The goal of the CRAFT-OA project is to strengthen the infrastructure and increase the visibility of the Diamond Open Access model – a publishing approach where neither authors nor readers pay fees. Instead, costs are covered by public institutions such as universities, libraries, or research centers. This model supports equitable access to scientific knowledge and the advancement of open science.

The project pursues this goal by developing interoperable technologies and building a network of cooperating journals, primarily small and medium-sized Diamond OA publishers. Building on the work of CRAFT-OA, the newly established European Diamond Capacity Hub (EDCH) aims to provide long-term support for infrastructure, coordination, and capacity-building for community publishing in Europe.

Call for Proposals
The conference is currently accepting submissions for presentations or short poster lightning talks on the following topics:

  • Technical Frameworks: tools and platforms for open and interoperable publishing
  • Community Empowerment: education, inclusion, and strategies for sustainable infrastructure
  • Policy Concepts: governance, funding, and support for community publishing

The deadline for submitting proposals is June 1, 2025.
Registration for the conference will open in July 2025.
