SUMMARY:Webinar: DMP – Why me??? (for researchers)
DESCRIPTION:When: May 22\, 2026\, 9:00–10:00\nWhere: online \nThe EOSC CZ Training Centre is organizing a webinar focused on data management plans (DMPs) entitled “DMP – Why me??? (for researchers)”. The webinar will be held in English. \nData management planning has become a common part of everyday research practice. However\, many researchers may feel overwhelmed by the wide range of requirements associated with research data management and the preparation of DMPs. This seminar will focus on what a DMP looks like\, why it is important for a research project\, and how to prepare for answering questions related to datasets within a DMP. \nParticipants will gain an overview of the benefits of DMPs and their role as “living documents” that are continuously updated throughout the course of a project. The seminar will also include a practical introduction to completing different sections of a DMP\, such as metadata standards\, data formats\, and data transformation. \nThe webinar is primarily intended for beginners\, although participants of all experience levels are welcome. No prior knowledge is required. For participants who are already dealing with DMPs in their projects\, it may be useful to have a basic understanding of the data management requirements within their projects so that they can better relate the presented information to their own specific use cases. \nMore information and registration can be found here.

SUMMARY:RDA P27 Plenary Meeting
DESCRIPTION:When: October 6–8\, 2026\nWhere: London\, United Kingdom \nThe Research Data Alliance\, in collaboration with UK Research and Innovation\, will hold its 27th Plenary Meeting from October 6 to 8\, 2026\, in London. The theme of the meeting is “Shaping a global open research commons”\, focusing on building a global open research ecosystem in which data are routinely shared and reused without barriers as a natural part of scientific practice. \nThe Research Data Alliance (RDA) is an international initiative founded in 2013 that supports the open sharing and reuse of research data across disciplines\, technologies\, and countries. RDA brings together researchers\, data professionals\, institutions\, industry representatives\, and policymakers to develop practical and sustainable solutions for working with research data. \nUK Research and Innovation (UKRI) brings together seven Research Councils covering all research domains\, as well as Research England and Innovate UK. It has a strong track record of investment in open research and research infrastructures\, building on decades of support for data access through funded data services dating back to the 1960s. \nRDA plenary meetings provide regular opportunities for the global community to connect and exchange on current topics in research data. At RDA P27\, discussions will focus on the role of digital research infrastructures as a key component of contemporary research – connecting researchers with data\, tools\, computing resources\, and skills. Sessions will explore how to better align national and international initiatives\, remove barriers to responsible data sharing\, and build a sustainable and connected open research ecosystem. A key focus will also be on strengthening global collaboration and identifying strategies to ensure long-term sustainability and research resilience. The meeting will offer a platform not only for sharing experiences but also for jointly identifying practical steps to advance an open research ecosystem that benefits science\, society\, and the economy. A more detailed programme is gradually being updated here. \nCall for Submissions\nParticipants are invited to submit contributions in several formats: sessions\, ideas pitch sessions\, and posters. Submission deadlines are as follows: \n– sessions (RDA groups and members): May 15\, 2026\n– ideas pitch sessions (a new short format open to a wider community): June 9\, 2026\n– posters: June 26\, 2026 \nRegistration\nRegistration for RDA P27 will open soon. Early bird registration will be available until August 27\, 2026\, followed by standard registration up to the conference dates. Payment by invoice will be possible until September 7\, 2026. A “walk-in” option with on-site payment will also be available. \nRegistration fees will range from GBP 200 to GBP 1000\, depending on the participant category and registration type (e.g.\, students\, participants from low-income countries\, walk-in registration). The standard early bird fee is GBP 650. \nMore information is available here\, where registration will also open soon.

The webinars take place once a month\, always on the third Friday of the month. The first four webinars focus generally on FAIR principles and Open Science in the humanities and social sciences and present various aspects of the SSH Open Marketplace. The following four webinars are thematic\, divided by discipline. \nSSH Open Marketplace is a discovery portal for the humanities and social sciences that aggregates and contextualizes resources\, tools\, services\, training materials\, datasets\, publications\, and workflows for all phases of the data lifecycle. \nMore information and the registration link can be found here. It is possible to register only for selected webinars. \nThis thematic workshop will focus on CLARIN services and standards for the management and analysis of language data. Participants will become familiar with the legal and ethical aspects of data management specific to language data (e.g.\, sensitive or personal data). They will also learn to use the SSH Open Marketplace to discover discipline-relevant resources and to prepare language datasets for reuse.

SUMMARY:Save the date: Open Access in Editorial Offices 2026 (cze)
DESCRIPTION:When: October 23\, 2026\, 9:00–15:00\nWhere: CAS building at Národní 1009/3\, Prague 1 (Room 205) \nThe second edition of the Open Access in Editorial Offices meeting\, held as part of the international Open Access Week (OAW) initiative\, will take place on October 23\, 2026\, from 9:00 to 15:00 at the Czech Academy of Sciences building at Národní 1009/3. \nThis year’s Open Access Week theme is:\n“The Cost of Knowledge” \nThe theme loosely follows last year’s edition\, “Who Owns Our Knowledge?”\, which reflected on questions of commercial ownership of knowledge and scholarly publishing. This year\, the discussion expands to the financial\, human\, and environmental costs of creating\, sharing\, and preserving knowledge. Once again\, we would like to explore these issues from the perspective of editorial offices of scholarly journals and publishing houses affiliated with institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences\, as well as other institutional publishers. \nCall for Contributions\nDo you have an idea for a presentation\, experience sharing session\, or example of good practice? We would be delighted to hear from you as soon as possible at openscience@knav.cz so that we can include your contribution in the developing programme. We approach the overarching theme openly and broadly – the main goal is mutual inspiration\, the sharing of experiences\, and networking among editorial offices and publishers of scholarly publications. \nLooking Back at Last Year’s Edition\nThe first edition of the Open Access in Editorial Offices event\, subtitled “Who Owns Our Knowledge?”\, featured presentations on\, among other topics: \n\n– services provided by KNAV for editorial offices:\n\n— assistance with DOI registration via Crossref\,\n— the planned connection to the national PID centre\,\n— the development of the AS Journals publishing platform;\n\n\n– experiences of the journals Československá psychologie and Archeologické rozhledy with the Open Journal Systems platform\,\n– the transition of the journal Česká literatura to Open Access\,\n– experiences with publishing OA monographs at Artefactum.\n\nPresentations from last year’s edition are available in the ASEP repository here.
