About the Data Steward Course

The Data Steward certificate programme at the University of Vienna prepares participants for the role of a data steward in research institutions. It focuses on connecting research data management, open science, and practical skills for working with data in research.

Participants will gain an understanding of FAIR data principles, the fundamentals of research data management, IT and data science basics, and ways to support researchers throughout the entire data lifecycle. The programme also includes a project component, where participants apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios.

The programme lasts two semesters (15 ECTS) and is designed as an extra-occupational course. It is taught in English and starts annually in October. The total fee is EUR 3,200 (EUR 1,600 per semester).
